We here at Oktopod Digital Press are proud to announce the release of our first full-length novel, Chris J. Randolph’s Stars Rain Down.

Sometimes, it takes a crisis to figure out who you really are.
In the near future, an irreverent astronomer named Marcus Donovan discovers a strange relic hidden beyond Mars, and he commandeers an exploratory vessel under false pretenses to investigate.
While Marcus and his crew venture off into the unknown, a mysterious alien legion appears in Earth orbit and invades. Human civilization is dashed apart in the blink of an eye, and Jack Hernandez, a search and rescue specialist, is one of the lucky few survivors. Along with a handful of friends, Jack joins the scattered resistance and wages a desperate terrorist war against the aliens, striking back any way they can.
In the bloody struggle to reclaim their planet, Jack and Marcus are each thrust into roles they never could have imagined, in a conflict as old as time. The fight takes them from China to Africa, and from Earth to Mars, while the secrets they uncover shake their understanding of humanity itself.
Stars Rain Down is about the horrors of warfare, and what happens when idealism collides with a savage fight for survival. Dominated by an enemy who shows neither compassion nor regret, the last remnants of mankind discover that every choice leads to unforeseen consequences, and mercy can triumph even in the face of mortal rage.

Congrats on your finished book, a monumental achievement IMO.
Appreciate it, 3dementia. It’s been a long road getting here.
Hello – I saw your post in MobileRead and will be adding Stars Rain Down to my Online Novels blog, http://online-novels.blogspot.com/, tomorrow morning.
It’s a struggle trying to publicize, and I really appreciate it, Susan! Thank you so much for the link.
Loved your book, can’t wait till the next one…
(sorry if that was too soon but I really can’t wait)
Oh, don’t apologize! I’m just glad to hear you’re excited, and I wish you didn’t have to wait.
Oh my.
I just finished reading Stars Rain Down, and the only thing I can say is “More?”. The book has had a lock on me like no other book in quite some time and I just hope there will be more books in the same IP. The ending (last couple of chapters) got me a bit confused, but it also got me craving for more.
Great story and great characters put together in a great way, kudos Mr.Randolph. I hope to see more from you in the future!
Thank you so much, Simon! I’m really glad you enjoyed it.
Concerning the ending, there are a few things I intentionally left unexplained in order to explore in further books, so I hope those are parts that are confusing you. If not… well, I just hope that’s the case.
My next project (which I’ve just started) takes place in a different universe, but I plan to start work on the sequel to Stars in the Spring, with release following in the Summer. We’ll just have to wait and see how close reality hews to my plans this time around.
Thanks again, and take care!
~Chris
One could only hope for it to be sonner, I stumbled upon this impressive work of fiction on stanza. Ill have you know that I got nothing done for 2 whole days while I read the book, and all I have to say is wow, congrats, and more. This took on a whole new level of creating a spectacular universe that stars is based, written, and takes place upon (I’m afraid I may have worded that incorectly, O’well, I hope it gets my point across) needless to say I’m adamant about reading more, and I am still wondering where you got your inspiration and other items like that from,
Thank you very much for the comments, Snipester, and I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Concerning your question about inspiration, it’s honestly a very long list.
Chris just read stars rain down for the second time, and it still was captivating and that’s saying a lot for me with my extreme ADHD and all but just wanted to say bravo and more please!!!
Chris, wonderful read! An excellent book, the more so because it is your first. And I *very much* appreciate your choice of Creative Commons. Here is to the hope that other authors follow in your footsteps.
I’m sitting on the release announcement page and don’t see a PayPal link so I can send you some cash. I’ll look around the site; this book is well worth a contribution.
Good luck on your future projects!
TheReg92
Thanks a ton for dropping by, TheReg92!
Things have been a bit quiet recently, and I really appreciate you letting me know what you think on this cold, dark winter evening. It’s just the sort of pick-me-up I needed.
The choice of Creative Commons was honestly a difficult one, but I feel it’s the future of writing, and it was time to put my money where my mouth is. I suspect we’ll increasingly look at the internet as a broadcasting rather than publishing medium, and making it easy to share work will be key to that transformation. I think… maybe. We’ll see.
As for a Paypal link, I used to have one here but it wasn’t exactly seeing a lot of activity. I’ve just restored it (found on the right side of the page), though, and I thank you so, so much for your interest in helping.
Take care,
~Chris
Sequel please! Stars rain down was a great read, and very enjoyable. My imagination was happily operating at full tilt. Hope you are hard at work crafting more!
Thank you so much for the kind comment, Marbles! If you could tell a friend or two about the book, I’d really appreciate it. As for the sequel, I’m aiming to have it out this Fall, but I’ve got another project occupying me in the meantime, and I hope you stick around to see what I’ve got cooking.
Chris,
I love the book. Really great read. This is a book I will recommend to friends and is getting listed on my Shelfari page. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next book.
Thanks Royce! I really appreciate you dropping by to share!
And of course, any help in spreading the word would be positively wonderful. I recently applied my vast scientific skills to the task of determining my work’s popularity, and I came to the conclusion that I’m the 3rd most unknown author in the United States, so I could certainly use a hand.

Downloaded the book from google books (I think) some time ago, just got around to reading it. I’m 2/3 through and it has been very enjoyable. Can’t wait to finish and looking forward to more books! I’m going to try to get it in paperback sometime if it is available.
